DDA & QCT Lookup
Checks a location against HUD’s Qualified Census Tract (QCT) and Difficult Development Area (DDA) lists for a selected designation year, and shows whether the site may qualify for the up-to-30% eligible basis boost under IRC §42(d)(5)(B).
Step by step
-
Choose a lookup typePick Address, Census Tract, ZIP Code, or County FIPS. An address checks both designations for one site; the other tabs each answer part of the question.
-
Look up an addressType the full street address with city, state, and ZIP, then click Look Up. At the property, Use My Location checks where you are standing.
-
Read the resultsEach card shows Yes, No, Depends, or Not determined. When either is Yes, the site may qualify for up to a 30% eligible basis boost under IRC §42(d)(5)(B).
-
Check the location and mapConfirm the matched address, census tract, county, ZCTA, and HUD area, and zoom the map to make sure the pin landed on the property.
-
Look up a census tractEnter all 11 digits to check QCT status. In a metro county the DDA shows Not determined, because metro DDAs are designated by ZCTA.
-
Look up a ZIP codeA ZIP checks metro Small DDA status only. When a ZIP crosses HUD metro areas you may see Depends with each area listed; an address lookup settles it.
-
Look up a countyEnter the 5-digit county FIPS to check nonmetro DDA status and see how many QCTs the county has.
-
Year, limits, and next stepsChoose the Designation Year, use Clear to start over, and open About for details. State-designated areas are not covered, so confirm results on HUD’s official maps.
What you get
QCT and DDA status badges (Yes, No, Depends, or Not determined), a basis boost summary, location details (tract, county, ZCTA, metro and HUD area), a table of HUD areas when a ZIP crosses metro lines, and a map for address and GPS lookups. There is no export.
Tips & notes
- An address lookup answers both questions at once. A ZIP only answers metro DDA status, and a tract only answers QCT status (plus DDA status in nonmetro counties).
- Metro DDAs are designated by ZIP Code Tabulation Area; nonmetro DDAs by county.
- Some ZIPs cross HUD metro area lines and are designated in one area but not the other. Use the full address to resolve it.
- State-designated basis boost areas are not included. Confirm results on HUD’s official maps before relying on them.
